Coleraine Albion PUBLISHED EVERY MONDAY and THURSDAY EVENING. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1914. [Newspaper Article] — Coleraine Albion and Western Advertiser — 5 February 1914

PUBLISHED EVERY MONDAY and THURSDAY EVENING. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1014. More than ordinary excitement ap pears to have been provoked by the consideration of the question as to where the annual athletic sports at Coleraino should lie held, and i two distinct parties have emerged from the confab: those who prefer the P. and A. Society's ground and others whose choice lies with the area of Queen's Park known as Silvester Oval. Two bodies have considered the question. One, at the close of a full discussion, came to the conclusion by a substantial majority that for' the present the showground was the better place ; j the other, after listening to the very most, that could be said for the oval, decided to abstain from any varying action. Not only has the preference for the showground been made by an organisation which in all fairness should be credited with an absence of bias in the matter, but that preference has practically recehed endorsement at i the hands of another body which, unde...

FIRE ON KONONGWOOTONG. GRASS, FENCING AND STACKS BURNT. [Newspaper Article] — Coleraine Albion and Western Advertiser — 5 February 1914

FIRE ON KOPJONGWOOTONG. G RASS, FENCING AND STACKS . BURNT. Grass fires in the summer are bad enough under any circumstances, but when they arrive with the thermo meter at its highest, and a furnace like wind blowing from the north, the prospects are certainly very dis heartening and tlio work of lighting the flames very hard. It was under these conditions that a conflagration started 011 Ivonongwootorig yesterday afternoon. A traction engine, it is said, put into Jjalochile for wafer, and while there an escaping spark ignited the grass and soon it was evident that there would be some work to extinguish the outbreak. Once KTiinir, the fire was unbeatable from the face, and the only plan was to burn back, at the same time rely ing on such natural breaks as were 1 within the threatened scope of fire. , The fire travelled through to Mr. , Norman Smith's property, and heie , the conditions were most ominous. : Had it not been for the energies of tlie workers, and (lie veering of the win...

"FROM MANGER TO CROSS." [Newspaper Article] — Coleraine Albion and Western Advertiser — 5 February 1914

" FROM MANGER TO CROSS." u ;— One may be pardoned for having I the fear that the spirit of a picture I with tliafc of such a sacred theme as the life and death of Jesus Christ. But that such a fear may lie ground less was made clear at the pictorial story, " From Manger to Cross," at the Coleraine Mechanics' Hall on Tuesday evening. From the first view to the last there was a reverent and intense scrutiny on the part of the audience—or congregation, shall j we say? Nay, it was a unique gathering, and may be correctly de scribed as the biggest and most cos mopolitan Bible c'nss ever seen in Coleraine, for the hall was filled and every one looked on the scenes with ! the consciousness that he (and she) was brought face to face with the solemn historical teachings of relig ious faith. Some well-known Scrip tural text preceded each series of movements, and theu was portrayed some familiar incident in the life of our Lord. The whole account was kept in chronological order, and when the l...
