VICTORIA. MELBOURNE, June 26. [Newspaper Article] — The North Queensland Register — 29 June 1892

VICTORIA. Meeboubne, June 26. I Dr. James, of Heidelberg, was thrown from his baggy and killed. The Public Board of Health lias received a telegram from Kyneton, stating that a young mam named Henry Paris, a second 1 class prssenger by the Oroya, had developed emall-pox. A deputation from the north-eastern dis trict, presented to the Commissioner for Cus toms a resolution protesting against the in crease in the horse tax, passed at a meeting at Wodonga. The Commissioner, in reply, stated the farmers asked for an import tax of £4 on horses, but the Government cut it down to £2 10s. He could not pledge the Government to withdraw the tax; but would place the matter before the Cabinet. If the deputationNcould show how the regulations could be amended so as to retain the Indian horse trade without opening the door to fraud, he would have them amended. Upwards of 6,000 names have now been registered at the Government Labor Bureau. Vacancies were yesterday announced for ten axemen at Albur...

THE Queensland Register PUBLISHED WEEKLY. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29, 1892. American Politics. [Newspaper Article] — The North Queensland Register — 29 June 1892

THE NORTH PUBLISHED WEEKLY. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29, 1892. American Polities. THE preliminary canter in the United j States Presidential campaign is over, ! and the men have been chosen who : are to do battle for the greatest ! elective position the world now holds. The Democrats arrived at the selec tion of Mr. CLEVELAND more peaceably than their opponents, but this is owing to the fact that his rival, Mr. HILL, the Governor of New York State, has not a clean reputation, and was the Tammany Hall candi date, a fact quite sufficient to pnt the rest of the country against him. Mr. HARBISON, when it came to a vote, had also a large majority, but the opposition of Mr. BLAISE was of a | personal, and therefore of a bitter character. It was Mr. BLAD?E who ran Mr. CLEVELAND so closely eight years ago, but he was ill-advised to resign his position as Secretary of State to oppose Mr. HARBISON, for the support accorded him was pitiably weak, and he resigned a very re munerative certainty for a gre...
