Or, if to hoot and to toot a Hottentot be taught by a Hottentot -tutor, should the tutor get hot if the Hot tentot tot hoot and toot at the Hot ientot tutor ? This is one from an old spelling book : Theophilus Thistle, the success ful thistle sifter, in sifting a sieve full of unsifted thistles, thrust 3000 thistles through the thick of his thumb. Now, if Theophilus Thistle, the successful thistle sifter, in sifting a sieve full of unsifted thistles thrust 3000 thistles through the thick of his thumb, see that thou in sifting a sieve full of un sifted thistles thrust not 3000 thistles through the thick of thy thumb. It is even hard to read this:- Bill had a bill board. Bill also had a board bill. The board bil...

The Sailing of the Troopship. [Newspaper Article] — Heidelberg News and Greensborough, Eltham and Diamond Creek Chronicle — 4 November 1916

The Sailing of the Troopship. The following poem was comnposed by Private.W. S. Simpson, of Canterbury, who was in Egypt, on board a troopship, but now reported as missing. He is a nephew of Mrs., Whiflin, of Lowe~ Heidelberg road, and prior to enlisting was a student for the Baptist ministry. - They strain, they slack, she gently heaves and sways;: -She hoots iad: creakisl the sailors chant their lays ; ::: Slow froin the` cilirf she sings with cir cling gait, . .. : Her bulwarksline on line ofl human freight. Farewell!" the voices fainter grow. As outward bound - the 'essel points her prow, Slow down the stream she drops, then gath ering way Swiftly she bears her freight toward the fray, Ne'er were there men :so brave and true as tlhese, Leaving belind their loved ones, hoime.and ease'...
