KEEP GOOD COMPANY. [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 30 April 1891

KEEP GOOD COMPANY   KEEP good company or none. Never be idle. If your hands can't be use- fully employed, attend to the cultiva tion of your mind. Always tell the truth. Make few promises.. Live up to your engagements. Keep your own secrets if you have any. When you speak to any person, look him in the face. Good company and conversation are the very sinews of virtue. Good character is above all things else. Your character cannot be essentially injured except by your own acts. If anyone speak evil to you, let your life he so that none will believe him Drink no kind of intoxicating liquors. Ever live (misfortune excepted) within your income. When you retire to bed think over what you have been doing during the day. Make no haste to get rich if you will prosper. Small and steady gains give competency, with a tranquil mind. Never play at any game of chance. Avoid temptation, through fear you may not withstand it. Earn money before you spend it. Never run in debt unless you...

MR. CLEMENTS EXPLAINS. [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 7 May 1891

M.L OfLEMENTS Z S. M1ANx people have expressed surprise that CLEIENTrs Tosic"has met With such wonderful and. unprecedented success in such a short time. The explanation is simple-IT Is GEcUINE. I saw the thousands of worthless hogs will American nostrums flooding the Australian market -year by year, month by month, day by day, and knew that a great amount of money left these shores annually in return for these rubbishy articles, all of which made the country so much the poorer. I also knew that the exigencies of life in this country and the climate neccssi tated the use of an artificial bloodmaker to restore the normal condition and vital forces which were so enervated by climatic and other influences. I also saw the;thin, pale, delicate, and attenuated men and 'women of Aus tralian cities, and studied the causes and ways and means of remedying the evil ; I saw that it was impossible to bring the article required into popular favour except in the form of a patent medicine. I knew o...

A DISCLAIMER RE APPOINTMENT OF SHIRE ENGINEER. TO THE EDITOR OF THE CHRONICLE. [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 7 May 1891

A DISCLAIMER RE APPOINTMENT OF SHIRE ENGINEER. TO THE EDITOR OF TIIHE CHRONICLE. Smi,-A letter on the above subject having appeared in your columns, and erroneously attributed to my pen, I would ask you to be so good as to add a foot-note to this letter stating that I was not the writer. And I weuld like to compliment the writer on so accurately producing my ideas as to almost deceive myself ; but still I regret that any. thing should have happened to render the advent of a newly-applointed Engineer in any way unpleasant, and to hope that, when he has been married as long as I have, he will not be so unfortunate as to be mistaken for a single man.-I am, &e., J. SHARMAN CRAWFORD. Yea, May 6, 1891. [It is neither journalistic custom nor etiquette to give any information whatever as to the writer of a letter. We may, how ever, say that Mr. Crawford was not the writer, nor, so far as we are aware, was he cognizant of the letter being written.-En. CnaovsICLE.]

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR. [We do not hold ourselves responsible for correspondents' opinions. Discussion on public topics invited, but personalities cannot be permitted.] THE OLD TOWN PUMP. TO THE EDITOR OF THE CHRONICLE. [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 7 May 1891

LETTER3 TO TE EDITOR. [We do not hold ourselves responsible for correspondents' opinions. Discussion on public topics invited, but personalities cannot be permitted.] THE OLD TOWN PUMP. TO TIIE EDITOR OF THE CIIRONICLE. Sxn,-I wish to make an explanation re pump that was so much talked about at last Council meeting, and to exonerate the President (Mr. J. C. Sanders) from any part of the transaction whatever. The facts of the case are, that I bought the pump from the Secretary, on his representation that he was empowered by the Council to dispose of same. Mr. Sanders knew nothing of the matter until after I had possession. As it has been hinted that a job has been perpe trated in this affair, I hope you will give this space in your next issue.-I am, &c., T. C. WADDELL. Yea, May 4, 1891.
