CHRISTMAS SERVICE. On Xmas night a service, was', held"- in tSt. Stephen's; Church- of' England, and • was very .largely attended. - The Rev. Dr. Rutledgo presided, and every item, of the.following programme was.greatly en joyed-;:—Special musical service—" Mag nificat " (Whitfield), "Nunc Dimittis" (Whitfield). Anthems—"There were Shepherds (Chas. Vincent), " In the be ginning was the Word ." (Thorne), Car ols—"The First Noel-," " The Manger :Throne;" " A-Child was Born." Several Christmas hymns were also rendered. On Xjnas Eve the Mittagong Brass Band', in accordancewith. their usual cus tom, gave the residents a treat in the shape-of Xmas carols.
