FOUND DROWNED. A CASE OF SUPPOSED SUICIDE. Frederick Ernest Wilson, 44, laborer, a married mail, was found drowned in the Murray River near the pumping plant on tlie Mobilong swamp on Wednesday. He left a widow and six children between the ages of eighteen month and twelve years. One of the children is at present an inmate of the Memorial Hospital, suffering from appendicitis. The officer in charge of the local police station. Mounted Constable Coulter, received a telephone message at three o'clock from Mr. J. A. Halliday and Mr. Mit chell, stating that a man's goat had been found on the river bank and it contained a note addressed to the, police in which the writer intimated his intention of drowning himself in ; the river. Coulter and Constable Litster proceeded to the spot indi cated and cast the grappling irons, and successful at the second-cast in recovering the body which was identi fied as that of Wilson. PUREBREDS UNDER TEST. JERSEYS AGAIN LEAD. The dairy branch of the New South Wales Department ot Agriculture has Issued the usual monthly list of reg istered purebred cows, whose tests of milk 'and butter fat yields were com pleted during November. The num ber of privately-owned registered cows on test on December 1 was 318, made up of 33 herds and comprising 37 Milking Shorthorns, 21 lllawarras, 221 Jerseys, 12 Guernseys, 1 Ayr shires, and 20 Prleslans. There were alsb 172 registered Government cows on test at experiment farms. The number of privately-owned cows which completed a 273 days' test during the month was 26, comprising 16 Jerseys, four Milking Shorthorns, three lllawarras, two Ayrshires, and a Guernsey. The nine highest among these were Jerseys; representing five different breeders. The leader was Mr. A. Brooker'a mature cow Tidy's Pride of Kelvinstde, which yielded 11,596 lbs. milk, averaging 6.1 per cent, test', and representing 696.93 lbs. butter fat, Mr. H. A. McDonal...

TOBACCO NOTES. Field Cultivation. Tobacco being a. fast growing crop, requires that all possible attention be paid to cultivation, both between the rows and around each plant. Ne glect of this precaution will severely retard the plants, and further a grower must not alloiy this to happen, other-, wise tbe quality of the leaf wilt he seriously Impaired. Cut Worm. This pest is well known to growers because of its destructiveness to crops and young tobacco plants. To deal effectively with them in the. fleld, the following poison bait should be prepared:—Thoroughly mix 1 lb. of Paris green with 50 lbs. of bran, and distribute it through the fields or around the plants in the evening. Just before the mixture is to be used, mois ten it with approximately 3 to 4 gal lons of water that has been slightly sweetened with molasses and three oranges, to make It more attractive.
