Ooldsbrough, Mort, and Co., Limited. At our auction on Tuesday last we brought forward an important catalogue of 5,371 .luileu. Regular buyers were iu full attendance, and in addition thereto wore several operators from the sister colony. The market., on the whole, did not exhibit quite tho same animation an prevailed a fortnight ago, tho bidding being at times sotnowhat irregular. Pricos for good wools were practically unaltered, but for medium and inferior descriptions tho demand occasionally showed signs of slackness when afford wore slightly below owner's expectations, necessitating withdrawals. Is a Meat Diet Suitable for Australians? [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Wool and Stock Journal — 3 February 1899

Is a Meat Diet Suitable for Australians? «, Dr. Hodgson delivered a lecture on the ahovo subject at the Teniporunco Hull, Sydney, lust week, and took tho ground that Australians de not eat enough meat. In opening his lecture Dr. Hodgson remarked that a wave of fashion had set in against meat eating, and yet there existed no valid reason against flesh consumption. All physiologists admitted tho necessity for a mixed diot, and divided the human race into two large classes those who eat plenty of llesh being called the high-fed, and those who cannot obtain much meat, the low-fed. To quote Sir William Ko liorts :-'. Wo high-fed classes and racos display on the whole a richer vitality, more mo mentum, and individuality of olmractcr, and a greater brain power than their lower fed brethren ; and they constitute tho soil or breeding-ground out of which eminent men chiefly arise." MUTTON IN THE UNITED STATES. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Wool and Stock Journal — 3 February 1899

MUTTON IN THE UNITED STATES. BY.J. MC-CAIC, OF ONTARIO. It is sen roc 1possible to exaggerate the im portanceof the inullou interest in the United States. Though the gonitis of the United Statos shepherd has found its highest expression in tho ©volution of tho world-renowned American merino, it is juBt as true that the rapid advance of civilization and settlement in tho United States, the industrial expansion and tho rise of large centres of population, are going to cull forth the best energies of the shepherd in moat production in the neighbourhood of these centres in the future. They are, of course, I doing this already, but the fact that Canadian I mutton can be brought in at a profit in thti faco of a 37 por cent, duty, and from pretty hlgh prioed lands, shows that this branch of sheep production has not reached its limit. Tho wool industry will be pushed baok to tho plain districts of the west, whore sheep mothods arc to a large degree, simple and more or less primitive. As a r...

Gauging Temperature in the Treatment of Frozen Meat, A valuable" invention has been made by Messrs. Trimmington and Duncan, electricians, of Sydney, for indicating temperatures in cool storage chambers.
