THE PEAK DOWNS COPPER COMPANY. THE eighteenth half-yearly meeting of the shareholders «as held at the Chamber of Commerce, at noon yesterday, «hen the following report «as unanimously adopted on motion by the chairman, Mr. B. Buchanan. The directors have much pleasure in submitting to the shareholders the result of the company's operations for the past half-year. 6955 tons of ore, the usual average of 20 per cent, have been «melted, producing 1370 tons of refined copper, which has been removed from the mine nearly as lost as made. The plant, machinery, and furnaces are in efficient working order. Tbe mine has lately been again visited by Mr. J. 8. Mitchell, one of the directors of the Company, who continues to report most favourably on the quantity and quality of the ore, on the abundance of fuel in the neighbourhood, and on the great value of the Company's property. John Non was obarged with stealing from the dwelling of Alexander Fyfe, Lower Dawson Road, a gold watch and silver measuring tape. Tributers and tutwork men will reeciro un adrnnce equal to 4?. per I week, which will, it is supposed make their weekly earnings about 40s. The owners' account men will receive 3s. per week additional, and boyB' sums varying from ls. to 4s. Of course thc prices of contracts will be advanced proportionately. At the Smelting Works, the captains of furnacrs will receive an odvance of 4d. per charge, and tho mates 2d. per charge ; other labourers who were affected by the last , reduction being raised proportionately.
