Sir William Lyne. [Newspaper Article] — The Lockhart Review and Oaklands Advertiser — 20 December 1910

Sir William Lyne. The ' Gnndigai Times'* says: ? The Labor party is evidently going to make Sir William Lyne toe the mark. He must declare himself to be a pledged member of the caucus, or an avowed enemy qf (he party. At the last meeting qf the executive of the P.L.L. in Jydney it was de? cided, iu response to representations from the Hume electorate, to convene a meeting- of the delegates from all the branches of the P.Ij.L. in that electorate, wjth a view of forming a council so as more effectively to organise the Labor vote in the dis trict. The party is determined to run a Federal candidate of its own, a pledged member, for the Hume at the next election. The time and place of tho meeting to appoint the council has not been fixed, but it will probably take place in Wagpa as soon as the delegates can be sot

THE AFFIANCED BRIDE. [Newspaper Article] — The Lockhart Review and Oaklands Advertiser — 20 December 1910

THE AFFIANCED BRIDE. If only all engaged girls would try to introduce a practical element into the romance of courtship there would be fewer tears shed in mar ried life, and more money to spend on the newly-made home. The period of courtship should never be without, its ambitions : the desire that the affianced husband should be making much of his talents and the most of his position. Actual love-making, it must be grsnted, is a more diverting pastime for the evening hours than poring over books that promotion may be won; but there is another side to the picture when the home stands for future financing, and all sorts of expenses loom on the married horizon. Far too often a girl is to blame for the failure of her lover's ambition. She exacts every moment of his leisure to devote to herself, frowns at business engagements, and pouts in unbecoming fashion when he sees the need of working more and courting less.

ON GETTING ENGAGED. [Newspaper Article] — The Lockhart Review and Oaklands Advertiser — 20 December 1910

ON GETTING ENGAGED. For how many engagements are the moon and a rich oaritone re sponsible '{ For how many more a pair of earrings or a curl 011 the nape of the neck? I know of one engagement that was entirely due to a hunting accident. The man broke his arm out hunting, and in the lull caused by the temporary and unwill ing suspension ot his activities the girl found his sling perfectly irresis tible. If a man is going away for a term of years he nearly always makes a point of proposing the night before he starts, and the girl nearly always accepts him. Absence does not always make the heart grow fonder, but the thought of absence invariably incites it to momentary aberration. If the girl should chance to refuse, the man more often than not binds up a wounded heart on the way out with a quite unne cessary bandage. A girl is often at tracted to a man because his mother or his landlady may be assumed to make him uncomfortable. There is a certain personal superiority to be acquired in...

FOR BETTER, FOR WORSE. [Newspaper Article] — The Lockhart Review and Oaklands Advertiser — 20 December 1910

I FOR BETTER, FOR WORSE. _ ? r- — When - a girl begins to fe*l that some particular man is growing more interesting to her than the rest of the. world, ,it is time for her to pause and think of many things. That interest may be the first leaf of the plant 'we know by the name of love. If it is unchecked and- en- couraged, it win-spread to sucn pro portions that, for happiness or for misery, -it will stay rooted and strong. When it is Btill a little weak faricy it is easily managed, and a girl should think well what manage ment it needs. For she must make sure that the man she likes a good dqal is the right man for her to like still more before she lets her liking I go drifting how it will. She should take her observation and her sense and the experience and judgment of older and wiser people into counsel | before she goes too far. The man must be a good man if she is to give j him her love. The girl who does not | make a cardinal point of that is lay- I ing with her own hand the fou...

St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Auspicious Opening at Henry [Newspaper Article] — The Lockhart Review and Oaklands Advertiser — 20 December 1910

St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Auspicious Opening at Henty That Dr Gallagher, Bishop of Goulbarn, was pleased on tho occa sion of the opening oE the new Catholic Church at Henty la putting it mildly. Two years ago he did not think such progress would be possible iu the time. Mass was celebrated on Sunday morning, and at 10. oft the oflicial dedication ceremony took piace, Kev. Father Cleary, the parish priest; offering up a short prayer, after which the Bishop requested the con gregation to retire, and assist in a processional march. The ceremony of blessing then took place. Headed by Father Lummer, then the Bishop, followed by Father Clear y and tho congregation, a procession was formed and the walls of the church were sprinkled with holy water and blessed. Th^n all returned to the interior of the building, where the ceremony was further continued, eventually the church, duly conse crated, being formally handed over to the people. Rev. Father Cleary then proceeded ~~ with the servi...

Goldfind at Narandera. CAUTION ADVISED REGARDING REPORTS. [Newspaper Article] — The Lockhart Review and Oaklands Advertiser — 20 December 1910

Goldfind at INfarandera. CAUTION ADVISED REGARD ING REPORTS, The Sun ' sent a special mes senger to inquire into the reported goldfind at Narandera last week, and this is what he thinks of the discov erer, Mr M'Lean, and the prospects of the field : — ' M'Lean is a straightforward man, who thinkB he has a real good thing, and I sinocrly hope he has. Rock News. [Newspaper Article] — The Lockhart Review and Oaklands Advertiser — 20 December 1910

Rock News. On Friday afternoon, Mr John Condon distributed the school prizes in our local public school, a full account of which will appear in our next issue. What would have proved a serious event in N.fcvW. railway history (the sister State unfortunately defies com parison), was averted bv t! e coolness /« nd promptitude of The Rock Station Master, Mr ' Russell, last week. It appears that a late train was shunting and somehow or other the points opened with the result thaf- two trucks (24 tonere) ran of? the line. Tearing - and twisting up the rails for, a. considerable distance, the trucks wrought great damage to the permanent way, rails and sleepers on tfce main line of the great southern l ail way being forced in all directions. Eventually the coupling broke and the train was brought to a*, standstill. On examination it was found irapos* ?ible to draw the veuagade ti'uoka back 9t p ifct tiftt uA m. ito fipem* wero op their way. from Altuiry at I the time, Mr Russell deemed it'...
