NEWS OF CIRCUIT C 0 URL Illinois Central Company Victors in Smoke Suit . Joseph Kuhn 4 Son Failed to Prove Negligence—Entries on the Circuit Docket Yesterday . The $ 5 000 damage suit of Joseph Kuhn & Son against the Illinois Central Railroad company came to an unexpected close yesterday , when the court , ruling on the motion of the company s attorney , instructed the jury to return a verdict in favor of the defendant company . This move of the company was made after the evidence for both sides had been taken and was the result of The Kuhns failure to prove that the smoke was caused by negligence on the pant of the defendant company . Kuhn & Son have entered , a motion for a new trial . Howard Dillman , who , unltil about a year ago conducted a saloon in Urbana , Is defendant in a suit brought for an alleged infraction of the city ordinances relative to the dispensing of liquors . BUCK IS FOUND GUILTY . Sent to Jail for Practicing Medicine Without a License . Ij \ N . Buck , who is alleged to have declared he was a healer , was tried before Squire Pauley yesterday on a charge of practicing medicine without a license . He was lound guilty ! , fined $ 200 and sent to the county jail in default of money to pay the fine . Attorney D . B . Saffer , representing the atate board of health , prosecuted the case . Evide . nce against Buck was overwhelming , and it was shown that he had been attempting to cure people of various maladies in Sidney . This is the second time the man has been convicted here . Hoosier intellect was pitted against Sucker brains last night and there was an oratorical tug of war . Six embryo orators , three of them representing Indiana State University , and tbree battling for the University of Ulinis met in joint debate on the platform of the Unicersity chapel and the Hcosiers triumphed . Three supreme court judges delivered the final decision in favor of the Indiana debaters , and their decision was unonimous . President Cassatt is * authority for tfie statement that ithe Pennsylvania company is about to place orders for new equipment which will cost a total of $ 24 , 000 , 000 . So far as is known this is the largest expenditure for equipment ever conrtemplated by a single railway system at one time . Mr . Cassatt , president of the company is going into the market immediately for 19 , 000 steel cars of fifty-ton capacity and for 250 locomo- , tives .
