The reasons are obvious , so far . as the money ...

Geometry , history , and the languages , too—T is surely but easy to talk , Why , one can converse when she knows all the words , As readily as she can walk . Logic and chemistry , too , I would take , What fun it would be to fill jars ! And astronomy—why its no work at all To walk out and look up to the stars . But reading , writing , and spelling ( you think ! I study from morning till night . To give such hard studies to such little girls , Do you think-just exactly right ? —Adelbert . F . Caldwell . ^ * _ - ¦ I Our Story Teller The Don Professor s Specimen . By Edgar L . Wakeman . ( Concluded from last vreek . ) ( Copyright . All rights reserved ;) From this moment there was no reserve between the naturalist of the schools and the naturalist of the woods . The professor was Malagas guest , and none could question his coming and going . Juanita was Matagas daughter . She went and came at will , more feared than loved even by Matagas himself for her strange nature-craft and secret power over reptile , bird and beast . Two crazy children together ! Matagas would say with a grave smile to eld Tomasa , as the professor and Juanita set out each morning to the llanos , the jungles and the forests ; but Tomasa , like so . many other women past the glorious heyday morn of ,-life , and now transformed to a bird of ill omen , would merely sniffle and groan , and ruefully shake her prophetic head . ^ , The professor , as pack-mule pannier laden ; for carrying their spoils , and Juanita , a...

ALLEGED FUN [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural and Livestock Weekly — 30 January 1896

ALLEGED FUN THE BISHOPS BUSINESS . There is a cititzen in this town who has always experienced the greatest difficulty in fitting their proper names and identity ta acquaintances whose , faces he knows perfectly well . So marked is this failing that he has often been placed in exceedingly awkward situations , even with friends whom he has known for several years , says the New York Tribune . Some time ago he hit upon what lie considered • a rather ingenuious plan for finding out the name of the man to whom he was talking . After one or two safely commonplace remarks upon the weather ; or any not too personal topic , he would ask In an apparently casual manner : Well , how is business with you , now—- • pretty fair ? It almost invariably happened that his nnsuspecting companion would say something in reply which would reveal the nature of * his occupation . That was all Mr . A wanted .
