HLNTS FOB THE HOUSEHOLD. One-Eag Cake. 1 cup of sugar, 1 of milk, 1 err, 2i cups of llour, 2 tea spoonfuls baking-powder; flavor to taMe; bake half an hour. To Clean Jewelry, Plated Ware and Britannia. Take lronp- aqua ammonia, 1 ounce; prepared chalk, ounce; mix. Keep well corked. Shake well before using. Mountain Cal e. Whites of 4 eggs, 2 cups white sugar, 5 cup butter, 1 cup sweet milk, I teaspoon soda, 1 of cream tartar,3 cups llour. This makes a geod sized cake. ' fried Caics.l egg, 1 cups sugar, 1 cup sour cream, 1 cup buttermilk, 1 men teaspoon soda, 1 even teaspoon .-alt, nutmeg seasoning. Mix soft and fry a light brown in hot lard. HINTS FOR THE HOUSEHOLD. Pie Crust. 1 teacupful of water, 1 of lard, a teapoonful of salt and a lump of soda the size of a hazzlcnut, and enough Hour to make 11 roll out. easy. Fried Cakes. I tcapootifnl cream, 1 c"beat up; a tcaspoonful of salt and lof soda, diolved in a little warm wa ter; sufficient Hour to makeit roll well: cut in pieces 3 inches long and 2 indie wide, and fry in hot lard. Cure for Chilblains. Tho-e who arc alllicted with chilblains can be eured of them by holding the alllicted parts to live coals as long as they can stand it: about the same manner a one would toast bread. 1'rotect the unaffected parts of the foot with a cloth of any kind. A few applications will effect a permanent cure. Snow Vale. The whites of fi ejx:., 1 cup of fine white sugar, 1 cup of sifted Hour, 1 tcaspoonful of cream-tartar.
