HE-UNION IN HEAVEN. BF WILLIAM IEOGKTT. If yon brglil stars which gem the night; Be each a blissful dwelling sphere, Where kindred spirit re unite, Whom death has torn assunder here. How sweet it were at ance to die, And leave tliis blighted orb afar, Mii'd soul and soul to cleave the tky, And soar away from star to star. But 0! how dark, how drear and lone, Would seem the brightest world of bliss, If wandering through eoch raclient one, We failed to find ilio loved of this, If there no more the tics shall twine, Thai death's cold hand atone could lever, Ah! then these stars in mockery shine, More hateful as they shine forever. THE TIMES J' .,.: 1 GLASGOW, Mo. THURSDAY, OCT. 3, 1850. DQCongrcss adjourned on Monday COL. BENTON. The letter of Col. Benton, published in our last issue, decides two points, as to the future action of himself und friends. First, that he "is striking for the Pres i lcncy" and Second, that he is utterly opposed to eny union with the Anties, in this state even to secure his own re-election. The Jefferson Inquirer, the leading organ of Bonton in ilio State, in speak ing of Col. Benton and the election of a Senator by the next Legislature, says "ice speak advisedly when we say that Col. Benton's name will be brought fvri ward as one of the candidates." In ad dilion to this, we may remark, that in conversing with a prominent Benton man the other day, who resides on the South side of the river, he spoke equal ly decided, and authoratively; and fur ther said the Benton men had no com promises to make with either party;ihal Benton would be nominated and voted for until he was elected or d...
