Why should he have been raked fore and aft mercilessly? Is it because he declined to attend a meet ing or a conference or a "dining" at which Mr. Cleveland was invited? Is A not Mr. Bryan's privilege and his right to accept or reject an invitation, or to decline attendance at a gathering where his views, or his presence would not be congenial; where perhaps, his absence would be better appreciated than his presence? xpress Trai4Euus Into a Ca oed of Young People. SEVERAL ARE KILLED The Deplorable Afair Happened at Newark, N. J., sad the Victims Were Pupils on Their Way to the High School. Newark, N. J., Feb. 20.-Running at almost full speed a train on a Dela ware, Lackawasna and Western rail road crashed into a trolley car load ed with pupils on their way to the high school yesterday morning. Eight of nine children were killed. and at least fifteen injured, some so badly that it is feared they will die. The accident occurred at the Clifton avenue crossing, long noted as a dan gerous spot. The trolley car was one of the special vehicles which the North Jersey Street Railway company runs between 8 and 9 o'clock five mornings in the week for the special aecomodation of the high school pu pils. The Magnificent Opera House in the Block, Together With the Vast Quantity of Scenery, Went to a Fiery Fate. Cincinnati, Feb. 27.-This city has been visited with the most destructive fre in its history. Abaout 1:30 o'clock yesterday flames were discovered in the cellar of George Joffee's grocery in Pike building, on Fourth street, be tween Vine and Walnut. Soon after the fire department play ed on the buildiing it was thought the flames were under control. But an hour later, however, there was an ex plosion, supposed to come from liquors in storage, and the flames soon after wards shot up through the roof of the sit story stone front building, and from that time on for several hours the fire was beyond control.
