Remarkable and Affecting Incident. [Newspaper Article] — Marysville Daily Appeal — 6 February 1860

Remarkable and Affecting Incident. Ihe Jfatlg Jpptal. It is •eldom that we hear of such a remarkable manifestation of filial devotion or heroism on the part of a child as is evinced iu the affecting incident we are about to relate. The age of the child was two years. On the afternoon of the 4th ult., Mr. Nash, the keeper of Grand Point Light, at Islesboro', started with n skiff for the purpose of mooring n boat a few rods from the shore. While in the act of casting over the knedgc anchor the. skiff capsized and threw him out. Because of his lameness he was unable to swim, and upon rising to the surface, seized hold of the gunwale of the skirt' and at once hallooed to his little boy. Elisha, who was looking out of the open window (the house being but a short distance from the shore) to give his mother the alarm. Mrs. Nash, who had been confined to the house by illness for ti fortnight, heard her husband's voice, and at once started for the rescue. Before leaving the house she charged...

On the evening of that day he began to speak in broken i.ccents but was never wholly insensible. When Karoline cainc to him 011 the seventh evening, lie wished, as usual, to commence a conversation on subjects for tragedies, and on the mode in which the loftier powers of man must be cultivated. Karolinc did uot answer with her usual vivacity, because she wished him to be quiet, lie felt this, and sorrowfully said, "Well, if no one any longer understands me. I had better say no more." lie soon fell into a dose, but rambled much in his sleep. '-Is this your hell? is this your heaven?'' he exclaimed just before lie woke, looking upwards, and gently smiling, as if a con- ' soling angel met his sight. On the Bth of May he wandered a good deal. Toward evenin" he expressed a desire once more i to see the setting sun. The curtain was drawn aside, and gazing with a cheerful | and s...
