THE KALGOORLIE MINER PUBLISHED DAILY. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12, 1895. [Newspaper Article] — Kalgoorlie Miner — 12 October 1895

KALG00I1LIE MINER PUBLISHED DAILY. I _*_ ? SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12, 1895. 'The Municipal , Council has' at -the right 'Uiom-eR-t-ftaJc^n definite action in the matter of securing and maintaining ..proper sanitary arrangements :for- the town and district. The. .alarming sprea I of fever -throughout -this-, and adjacent disti lets' . last '? summer; has ' caused -the. returnipf the 'hot season 'to* be regarded 'with feelings of dread by the inhabitants. While it can scarcely be said thai bad sanitation is the cause of the outbreak, it. must l-e admitted that the absence of proper precautions in this direction, greatly accelerates the work of the dre.vl disease. This fact however, has again and again beenj- iirgod, arid it is only for a practical step in thediiection of improving the sani tary conditions ihat the public has been waiting. The action which t'ie council has desided upon should meet with the cordial approval of, every citizen of the town. They have, in brief, decided to cut d...

THE Great Coolgardie Fire. MR W. R. WHITE'S STATEMENT. [Newspaper Article] — Kalgoorlie Miner — 12 October 1895

THE Great Coolgardie Fire.   MR. W. R. WHITE'S STATE- MENT.   This gentleman in a conversation with a reporter said : " I left the office a few minutes before 9 o'clock with Mr. Rennick, who had been auditing the books of the 25-Mile Development Company. Everything was completed,   and Mr Rennick had certified that the balance-sheet was correct. We went down as far as DeBaun's, and stood there talking for a few minutes. I then returned. On reaching my office I found my clerk at the door, and several men about him. I immediately unlocked the door and went in, and saw that the ceiling and upper parts   of the walls were on fire. I attempted to reach my books, but was unable to do so. The lamp was burning just as I had left it, and there was no fire whatever on the table. The ceiling and walls were burning, and the place was so hot that I had to escape. I   had my eyes singed. I again closed the door, and tried to think w...

THE Great Coolgardie Fire. [Newspaper Article] — Kalgoorlie Miner — 14 October 1895

TBE The- fire was still the general topic of conversation on Friday, and the incir; dents and chances connected with it were fully canvassed. During the. morning the Mayor received a telegram- ' of sympathy from the Premier, and although the scniiiuents expressed by Sir John, Forrest were thoroughly sin cere, ife was generally expected that the great disaster which has overtaken the town would- have evoked from the Government some practical proposal for providing against any second calamity of the kind.' We have reason to believe that, notwithstanding the wire received from the Premier early in the week (o the effect that ti.e town well w- uld bo proceeded with at once, nothing has been done. ? It is this inacticn which. ' is so disheartening. If permission were only given we have every confidence that Mr Martin' Walsh woukl imme diately start the work and that water - would be provided in five or six weeks/ time. Tne Major has devised a plan for erecting two 30,000 gallon st('-i4 t...
