Taggerty. Merriment and laughter re sounded from the rafters of the Forestry Commission Headquar ters, when the Chief Officer, Mr. R. Parke, and Mrs. Parke enter tained a happy gathering of friends and visitors at the first of a series of house parties arranged by the Taggerty School Commit tee, and held successfully on Oct. 22nd, with card games, competi tions and an attractive and well tested supper served by the popu lar host and hostess. The second house party will be held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. H. 'lonkin on Nov. 5th, with the promise of a mysterious special prize concocted by Mr. Tonkin himself.

CABARET BALL. The Cabaret Ball organised by tiio Alexandra Race Club and held at,tho Shire Hall on Tuesday, October 18, was as1 outstanding feature. There was a good attendance, most parts of the district being well represented, as well as a splendid local representa tion. Mr. W. Sandiford expressed the desire for everyone to enjoy them selves and thereby make the ball suc. cessful. This advice was certainly, heeded, and to the letter. Leo Bradley's orchestra provided excellent music for dancers, and the. menu was of the best. It was regret ted that the presentation of a floor show could'not be staged. However, this could not be avoided, as illness of one of the performers was the cause. Mr. Bradley offers his apologies, as he had two first-class artists engaged for that part of the program. ARIMOURED REGIMENT NOTES. On Saturday, October 15, 38 mem bers were enlisted for 13. Squadron at Alexandra, when the adjutant, Capt. Eric Watts, accompanied by head quarters' stall, visited the town for thle purpose of launching the half squadron. Captain Watts expressed delight at the support and assistance given the unit by the P. and A. Society, and was greatly impressed by the line type of young men:e offering for enlistment. A requisition has gone in for uni forms and equipment, and these are expected to be available early next week, when a parade will be held for dhe purpose of issuing same. Members will be notified when to-attend. The personnel enlisted on October 15 who were not medically examined will arrange same by appointment with the area medical olticer, Dr. H-lendry. The officers and senior N.C.O.'s of the half squadron will attend a week end bivouac with the regiment on Oc tober 29-30, at Puckapunyal, for the purpose of brushing up on training and getting back into t...

Death of Mrs. Mary Allan. "Many residents and friends joined the family and relatives of the late Mrs. Mary Allan to pay their last respects to a dearly loved and kindly old lady. The late Mrs. Allan had not enjoyed good health for some time but her passing came quite suddenly and peacefully. After a short service at the Presbyterian Church on Thursday, Oct. 21, the funeral moved off to the Alexandra cemetery. The many floral trib utes bore testimony to the re spect and affection in which Mrs. Allan was held by all who knew her. At the cemetery the coffin was borne to its - last resting place by Messrs. F. Aldous, Reg Payne, J. Mahoney and A. Aldous, whilst the pall was carried by Messrs. R. J. Briggs, A. Enticott, G. A. Payne, G. Armstrong, R. Kirby and H. Newman. Rev. McKenzie officiated, and Cumming, Culhane had charge of the funeral arrangements.

CHURCII OF ENGLAND Visit by Bishop of Wangaratta. On Sunday, October 23, His Lordship, the Rt. Rev. Bishop Armour, visited this Parish. A Choral Eucharist was celebrated at 8 a.m., and at 11 a.m. a service was held at Marysville. In the afternoon at Kanumbra, a read ing lectern was dedicated to the memory of the late Mrs. T. Fox, when the Bishop in (is sermon paid a tribute to the work of Mrs Fox in the Church at Kanumbra. In the evening the Bishop first dedicated a sanctuary lamp to the memory of Miss Lucy Maddox and mentioned that as the light in the sanctuary would always be burning, so the light of her influ ence would always be seen'in the Parish.
