Northern Miner. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1875. [Newspaper Article] — The Northern Miner — 25 September 1875

SATURDAY', SEPTEMBER S5, 1875. r~THE reply of Mr. Macalister to the Towos villo deputation appears to relegate the question of a railway to Charters Towel's to the Umbo of the Buadowy future. The survey of the line was intended, ho said, to seiiuie tlie Land, so that it, would Vie available " in future years" for railway purposes. Mr. Macalister is essentially n railway "jumper;" he goes at the work by fits and st&vt$, tvnd lias Mn'er placed before the Souse or the country any com plete or comprehensive scheme, rosting on e. scientific basis, (lis railways are alt log rollers; they arc the work of lobbyore and wire pullers. LONDON. September 22. [Newspaper Article] — The Northern Miner — 25 September 1875

LONDON, September 22. Prince Gortshakoff and M- Thiers have had an interview. The former feared the attitude of   the French Government towards Germany was to be attributed to the increased pressure of clerical influence ; he also stated that the Eastern question could be immediately settled should the mediation of the foreign represent- tives arrange the autonomy of Bosnia. Herze- govina, make an European Prince tributary to the Porte and, readjust the Montenegrin frontier. In the Warden's Court yesterday, the case of Thomas Mills v, Hugh Mossman was withdrawn, the plaintiff stating that the mullock which he   complained the defendant left on his claim had been removed. Several protection areas have been taken up during the present month at the Cape; the   population is increasing there, and this is a pretty sure indication that mining prospects are improving in that quarter. A Gazette Extraordinary announces that a writ has been published for...
