Mildura Fruit Harvest. Mil>Uir;i, .Friday. The conclusion of the Inut harvesting season hits almost been reached. The packing houses have received altogether about 700 tons of fruit more than last year, and thero are about 200 ton* to come. The recent rain was very welcome, as it practically did no injury to the small portion of the fruit crop that was undelivered, and it gave the parched land the rt'qnired moisture for the purpose of green manuring. Tho Irrigation Tnist commenced special watering lust week, but owing to the lownoss of the river and the' saline in tho water many growers question (he wisdom of j putting it on tho land, so the rain was doubly welcome. A big rise | has come down tho .Murray, which had reached tho loweatdepth known in this-district, for over 40 years. Already among the trading steamers the date of the first trip is being discussed. The first steamer ar-. rived from Wentworth last night, and with further rises owing to the recent rains navigation will...

MAKE YOUR DISTRICT KNOWN. [Newspaper Article] — Hopetoun Courier and Mallee Pioneer — 8 May 1914

MAKE 1T0UH DLSTIMGT KNOWN. 'Concerning some parts of the dis trict news comes but seldom. This is not entirely our fault; we have no miraculous power of knowing what is happening at all the places within our area of circulation. It is the fault of rvsiuents in the silent places. Will some man or woman take the matter in hand and cause the silence to cease. If no one is doing it for your district, will you try on these lines? Sond accounts of public and social events in your township and neigh borhood, such as weddings, deaths, accidents, concerts, matters touching district industries, etc. f Write the names of persons very distinctly. Don't bother about grammar or spelling ; it's the editor's work to ilook alter those trifles. The barest (skeleton is enough. Write only onions side of the paper. Giveinformation ; but let criticism alone. . Write yonr name and address on same corner—not for publication, but to prove good faith.
