His death, tluiuyh ho had attained his 65th yew, came as a turprise to many of his friends, nnd a number did not know of it until the beginning of this week. Tl\o late Mr. Weir was born at Campsie, Stirlingshire, Scotland, and come to the colony 32, years ago, Bottling soon after on the farm held ll\r liim n-. Iiiq rlr.nfii nti tliia fint-hll bnnir nl the Shoallijiven Biyer. He was a well informed man, and a lover of literature. He had also certain poetic ability, aud verses from Iiib pen occasionally appeared in tho Shoalhaven News some years ago. Ho wrote frequently on colonial topics to a Scottish paper, The Kilmarnock Sfcjtj daril, and those articles reprinted here wpre read with much interest. A more good hearted and cheerful man than tho late iM r. Weir could not be found.

MR. PETER MeLAREN. We regret to have to state that at about 6 p.m. on Thursday last, Mr. Poter M'Laren, an old and much-esteemed residents of this district, and who has resided for several years past in Nowra on the Greenhills road, died suddenly near his residence. Tho old gentleman, who was, we learn, ncaring 8Q years of age, went for a. walk about 9 in the morning, going tp near Tenant and back, and in the . fi.ffnrnnnn I10 veaa nrnlir iiifr alinnt hia linnflR as usual. Though in a feeble state of health, simply consequent upon senile decay, his death coming eo suddenly as it 4id was not expected. Shotf-ly before f- o'clock he was walking in front of his houso when he dropped dead. Deceased leaves a widow and three soub and four daughters, two sons and three pf the daughters being niarried and settled, in, this district.
