Three collieries hare already commenced work, and a number o£ others will start on Monday. A mass meeting is to be held at Newcastle to nrge the Government to introduce legislation for compulsory arbitration in trade disputes. The Mayor of Newcastle proposes that steps be taken to publicly recog nise the services of the Premier in effecting a settlement of the strike.

Tambo station cufc out on the 2nd inst., shearing having lasted a little over three weeks, and nearly 50,000 sheep being shorn. Tbo shearers gave their annual ball in aid of the local hospital in the evening, when the Court-house wa3 crowded, fully CO couples taking part. Dr. Nichol, Messrs. J. M. Yates and J. D. Tom, with a committee formed from the shearers, (vara indofatigablo in their efforts to make the affair a success. A supper was laid at midnight, when all present did ample justice to the good things ^provided.
