CORRESPONDENCE. THE FALL OF KNIPE. To the Editor of the Telegraph. [Newspaper Article] — The Telegraph, St Kilda, Prahran and South Yarra Guardian — 7 July 1866

CORRESPONDENCE. THE FALL OF KNIPE. To the Editor of the T7legroph. Sir,-The " vaulting ambition" of Coun cillor Knipe has, like that described by Shakspeare, " o'er-lcapt itself," and "fallen on th'other side." The publication of that scurrilous and libelous handbill, and the exhibition he made of himself on Mon day night and the Supreme Court judgment have sealed his fate. What little of sympathy he mighthave hadproviously heatthis meeting completely lost-excepting from those whose autagonism is preferable to their friendship. SHo has fallen, municipally, like Lucifer, never to rise again, His present position may be best described by the following parody of a well-known nursery ditty: C* Councillor Knipe silt on a wall, Councillor Knipe had a great fall; Not all Prahran bluster, nor all 'rahran men Could set Councillor-Knipe up again I!" A man who could stand up as he did at that meeting on Monday night, and unblush ingly, and without any apparent sense of im propriety, lay bare t...

THE RAILWAY CLAIM. [Newspaper Article] — The Telegraph, St Kilda, Prahran and South Yarra Guardian — 7 July 1866

*TIlE RAILWAY CLAIM. 'The claim mlade by the secretary of thle Mlel bourne andi Iobson's Bay Uniited Railway Coinpany, to luive the names of the share lwlders of tha baody insrised in the burgess lists of the various municipalities through wlichl their lines run, has caused considerable st:ir, and a good deal duimnnecessn.ry feeling. Itappears to us that the question is a very simple one. The claim mhde: is either a valid or an invaliI one, and the fact of borough councils either admittiug or rsjnoting it is of little account, The RIlevision Coiirt is the place where the right must be tried; and if the claim card be substantiated there, all the bluster in the world wont upset it. The Age hlms written agnipst the claim in that forcibly feeble style which has become so marked .a ctaracteristic of that impsrt;al and influential jmturnnl. It argues that, , f the claim is a good one, it ought nu. he enforced, and warns the company of , ?,pposition it iaust expect from that journal .. it ...
