LONDON SOCIETY. ACCORDING TO OSCAR WILDE. [Newspaper Article] — Hawthorn, Kew, Camberwell Citizen — 19 June 1914

LONDON SOCIETY. ACCORDING TO OSCAR WILDE. The following is a portion of a canversation in "A Woman of No Im portance," cnq of the most brilliant of all' the Osnar Wilde comedies: I.ord Illingr.orth--You want to be modern, don t you, Gerald? You want to know hlife as it really is. Not to be put off with any old-fash ioned theories about life. Well, what. you have to do at present is simply to fit yourself for the best society. Lord Illingworth-People nowadays are so absolutely superficial that they don't understand the philosophy of the superficial. By the way, Gerald, you sh~uld learn how to tie better. Sentiment is all very well for the button-hole. But the ezsential thing for a neck-tie, is style. A well-...
