Markets. Mes.si-s Huri^oii, Jones and Devlin Weekly (.)r..jn Report— Apart from .the iiedfeni auctions, which have ibee.n fully supplied, business in jjroduce has been dull, and-, the turnover iu most, lines of a limited character. Values in many instances have declined in buyers' favour. Wheat* We are pleased to note that latest information confirms our remarks of last week regarding the beneiit that the late sown crops derived where the recent rain fell, and it is now anticipated that the quality will not only be better, but a heavier yield will result in those districts so favored. Parcels of both old ond new grain have been offering freely, and arrivals have also been heavier. The market, however, is far from en.oourag-' ing, and values show no sign of improvement. Most of tho new grain which has been offering is below the standard, and shows a decided sign of the evil effects of the long dry weather. Chick wheat has met with ready sale, and clean whole samples are in e;ood reque...

A female witness (whilst in the witness box) shed tears, mid said that herself und children had " not a bite .in the house at that minute,' and hqr husband drank nearly all lie earned." A. prohibition order was granted for twelve months. Another scene caused laughter from the Bench and onlookers. A defeated female was ordered to pay coats with in a week, or go to gaol for fourteen days—" I ain satisfied," replied the lady as she was leaving the court, but when she reached the door she turned round to the bench and said "I hope I'll get justice in-heaven." Mr. Evans conducted all his cases in a very able manner at the Court on Tuesday. Mr. Forbes also made a good impression by the way ho con ducted the Moriarty v. Nueld case. Read G. M. Galloway's advt. on this page—it will interest 3'ou. It came out in the..Court on Tues day that there was a disturbance be tween females at Central Wyaloug a little time back....

From tlie Front. The following extracts from a letter received from Private Mikalson, of Wyalong, now at the front, liavo been ki ndly forwarded for publication : Rustenberg, October 31st.—On tlie 9th September we left Marmania and poured lyddite and 15 pounders into the Boers and beat them back splen didly. The enemy set two pom-poms going at us, .but we just knocked h— out of them. Just before noon we fired a lyddite shell right amongs -.17 Boers who were just doing a bolt from a small kopje with a pom pom gun ; but their pieces went instead as far as the lyddite could send them. We lost a couple of . men wounded that day, but killed a lot of Bo°rs and captured some waggons and prisoners. Wo then went into camp. When on the march we are called out often-at 1^30 a.m., it is never later than 3 a.m. On Tuesday, 11th September, Captain llyrie was wounded. Our best fun was at Man anna, a little place in some splendid country ; the best we have been through yet. We chased the Boers from...

AN EXPLANATION. (To the Editor of the Advocate.): Snt,—Kindly allow uie apace in your Valuable paper to place before, tlie public i!£he facts of a- case contained in the report ofjtbe Bifle Clitb meeting, which appeared in-tho Wyalong Star, and in which my name is very prominent. At the meeting reference was made to an account which was paid to 1110 for going out with the band to meet IX Campbell, nnd playing at . the smoke concert—as a reception to the ■ returned soldiers. My action iu claiming Bftme was characterised by some of the 1 speakers in what I consider very uncom - pliraentary.terms.' Now, Sir, what I would ! like to point out is that the reception, com mittee waited on the bandmaster asking for the Bervices of the band—at the same • time, intimating to him that any losses. : sustained, by the members of the band, through losing, a.shift, -would be refunded to ■them; and as I had to-pay a man to do iny shift, I naturally took the Committee . fit their word and applied for...
