Farm , Garden and Orchard INSECTS ATTACKING FRUIT TREES . By Prof . W . G . Johnson . Scale Insects—II . IT ls not strange that these creatures are not recognized usually by the ordinary observer as insects . There is not a more anomalous group in the insect world ; They differ greatly , even in closely allied forms , in appearance , habits , and life history . WhOj for instance , would associate the irregular outlines represented in Fig . 2 with those given in Fig . 3 . In fact , who would recognize the queer looking object at g in Fig 3 as an insect . at all .- It looks more like a Japanese kite than an insect . Nevertheless it represents an adult female scale insect , and the thread-like appendages just above the center are its mouth parts . The large scale represented in Fig ; 2 at c , is the coyer or house under which the female lives . The adult male looks more like an insect , and is represented iu Fig . S at f . Its scale cover is shown in Fig . 2 atj . - ¦ - ¦ . • ; ;; , ¦ ...

ASNUB [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural and Livestock Weekly — 30 January 1896

ASNUB IT looks like this—the resolution adopted by the House Committee on Judiciary . It is believed to refer to Comptroller Bowler , and reads as . follows : Resolved , That the committee on judiciary . be and is hereby tmfc & orized and directed to inquire as to the condition of the law <® n _ the subject of the right of the executive officers of the government in the several departments thereof to refuse to enforce , execute or comply with the provisions of any act of the Congress ¦ of the United States , on the , ground of its alleged unconstitutionality , or for other reasons , and to report to the House by bill or otherwise . It will be remembered that his high and mightiness , a young man lately from a lawyer s office , undertook to nullify a law of congress with reference to sugar bounties by pronouncing it unconstitutional and refusing to pay the bounties to those to whom they were due . To be sure the United States Courts afterwards refused to sustai...

HON . J . B . ^ ORAEER [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural and Livestock Weekly — 30 January 1896

HON . J . B . ^ ORAEER The fact that the Times-Herald , a pronounced goldite paper , denounces the silver position of Senator-Elect Fpraker and declares that the people of Ohio made a mistake in sending him to the Senate , is altogether in his favor . If a few more great States like Ohio , Pennsylvania , Alabama , Iowa and California will make a similar mistake and send genuine bimetallists to the United States Senate , such newspapers as the Times-Herald and the Chicago Tribune will learn that the people know what they are about and that they do not inquire of the metropolitan gold-bug organs to know how they should vote . In his speech of acceptance Senator-elect Foraker declared for the restoration of silver , as follows : I believe in bimetallism . ( Applause . ) I believe the world made a mistake when it demonetized silven I sincerely hope some safe way may be found for the restoration of silver to its rightful place alongside of gold as a money of ultimate redemption . I shall...
