Foot-ball is easily the most absorbing interest in college just now . Do you know the history of foot-ball in recent years ? Do you know that Harvard had the champion eleven in 1890 ? that under Captain Cunmock Harvard defeated even Yale , and Yale in turn defeated Princeton by a large score ? This gaining of a virtual championship for Harvard made Captain Cunmock very popular there , but it did not altogether explain to the casual visitor at Class Day in 1891 , why everybody from Bishop Phillips Brooks to the youngest under-classman , should applaud or jump from the ground and yell , as best suited his years and dignity , the name of Arthur Cumnock when it was thrown into the air by the president of the Junior class . ATHliETIC NEWS . Gettysbuig was defeated by the Indians , Satutday , Oct . 3 d , by tin large scoie of 82-O . The general opinion was that the Indians wouU not score over forty and some were confident that it would be less that this . Both teams wcic in good condition , but the Indians excelled it team work and were much heavier than Gettysburg , New plays wind they have been practising for a year were first used in this game , anc the Indians used them to a great advantage . Gettysburg made bin few gains . The principal ones were made during the second half Gettysburg secured the ball on a return kick , at the Indians 35 yard line , Fite plunged through the center for 5 yards , then Moser skirted the end for I o yards , again Fite bucked the center for 5 yards and the ball was on the 15 yaid line , but the ball was fumbled on the next play ihe Indians secuied it and their goal was no more in danger . TOWN NOTES . Life is constantly presenting contrasts . Week before last was a week of deaths , namely those of Frank S . Ramer , late proprietor of Globe Inn , Miss Annie G . Miller , a sister of Mrs . Judge Smyser , and Win . K . Caldwell . Last week was a week of weddings . And the world loves a wedding . On Tuesday Dr Franklin Menges and Miss May Mcllhenny were married . On Wednesday Miss Mary C . Neely and Rev . D W .
