NO. 40. v 705 VOTES CAST AT HAYTI PRECINCT NO. 1 The Primary Shows Hayti 118 Less Votes than Polled at the Local Option Election on June 14. CARUTHERSVILLE CANDIDATES FAVORED BY HAYTL Old Mother Wallace and Mrs. Corbett Go Down in Defeat, has or Once more the battlo of ballots been fouirht. and the strife is. should bo, over. Hayti, downtrodden, oppressed and abused, rises superior to her enemies, and once more rolls up the votes that count for her friends and for her best interest. The Hayti vote for Caruthorsville candidates shows the broadminded ness and liberality of our people and should dispell for all time the thought that we entertain ill will only for those who entertain ill will for us, but that we are true to our friends and to those who treat us fairly. This election should also rout the Argus-Wallaco element from politics in Pemiscot county and give us poli tics free ...

V " i!r"r$rr1-rliVsi-i"V!l''' Our Pay Roll Goes Oh:' Wo find a sensible, as well as quite true, editorial in the Faragould, (Ark.) VOTE CAST AT PRIMARY ELECTION, AUGUST 2, 1910. )th f ) Soliphono: "There is one way in which the pay roll on the Soliphono differs from that of other Industries: If business gets dull and it does not pay to run, tlio factories are shut down, the men are tthrown out of employment until orders justify the owners in starting up again. With the Soliphono it does not mutter how dull business gets, the paper must come out every day, and there is more days at tills season of the year when it' loses money' than whon It makes money, and If we could do like tho factories, wo could close down when it Is dull and start up again when it Ib profitable to run." Tito above caso fits tho Herald also. During tho latter part of Juno and July and August we have never been able to pay expenses, but tho paper must come out and tho payroll must go oil. Our employes are paid be...

We will, likely, have to let our printer go, and, in order to give the people of llatl a paper, Mrs. York will have neglect her household duties and her suckling baby, and come to the ollice and work. It is, indeed, a sad com mentary upon tile business men of Ilayti that such is the case, and, for our part, we are heartily ashamed of the situation. A glance at our adver tising columns is sullicient. Whose ad vertisements do you see? Our sub scribers are not to blame. We have the best and most prompt paying list of subscribers in the state. THE HAYTI HERALD VOL. 2. HAYTI, MISSOURI, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1910. NO. 44. 1 a "THAT COURT." Last week wo had something to say about a certain "court," boing hold In Ward & Collins' olllco, In the city of Caruthersville, pretending to bo in connection with the local option elec tion contest, which said contest is pending In the clrcuitconrt, and Judge Hiloy had ordered that no subpoenas be Issued without his consent. But this "cangaroo" court is going merrily on, calling witnesses before It, and by threats and other intimida tions, compelling them to testify. So far as we are able to learn, there is no money on hand to pay these wit nesses or the expenses of this court, and all this expense will have to bo taxed up against the county and be paid out of the county treasury. One unusual thing this court is do ing, is issuing attachments for wit nesses without giving them a chance to appear. It has required consider able time in some instantes as much as two days to get through...
