- , Extraordinary Phenomenon. A correspondent of the Missouri Dem ocrat, writing from Arrow Rock, states that, on the morning of the 29th of Jan uary Inst, thero occurcd at that place an extraordinary phenomenon. It is de scribed as follows : "It consisted in four circles, (differing in diameter from -15 degrees to 1G0 de gree?,) one inverted areh or semi-circle, possessing all the primary colors and glow ing with all the briliancy of the ordinary rainbow; and also 5 parhelion?, or mock suns, com raonly known as sundog?. The circle of 1G0 deg. appeared to pass thr'o the centre of thesun, aud having the zenitq for its centre. The scene began at sun rise, and increased in beauty and splen dor as that luminary ascended the skies, until having attained analtitudc of about 40 deg. when it was perfect. At lOi o'clock a. )C 3cffcvsonia, THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 1355. jggr We were informed yesterday, by a friend, that he had received a letter from Senator Walton, stating that the Veto Message of the Stroudsburg Bank Bill, would he called up in a day or two, and that there was a very fair prospect of passing the bill by a two third vote. We hope that such may be the case, and that the Legislature will consent to jtho pass age of the bill. There is not a com munity in the State, who stand more in need of banking facilities, than the people of this County do. A JMew Liquor Act mi XT ! me .ew nquor law, published in an other column, has been bigucd by the Governor, and is now a law. It goes in to operation on (he 1st of nest October, and makes it unlawful to keep any place where may be sold and drank any kind of spirituous or malt liquor?. These were all re ceived in one quarter. i l)c 3cifcv0ouian. THURSDAY, APRIL 23, 1355. Fire at Easton. A destructive fire occurred at Kastou on Saturday evening last. The fire orig inated in a itable, situated on Green Al loy, in the rear of the Methodist Episco pal Church. About ten buildings were destroyed on Hivcr alley, between Front and Secoud streets. The loss is estima ted at about S'20,000. Howard & Co.'s Express stable was dc stroycdrwilh five horses and several wag ons. The Methodist church, on Second direct, was wholly destroyed, and the parsonage adjoining, barely escaped. A inon the others sufferers, are Messrs. E. Y. Keller, carpenters; G. Allen, baker; Hippie & Lines, lumbermen; sis frame dwellings were also burned, and the oc cupants lost, everything they possessed. The church was insured for S3750.
