The Madness of Mrs.Joliffe .'rangfe Experiences in the Life of a Doctor. By A. T. MEAD (Copyright, by W. G. Chapman.) There are few subjects which in- I terest me so much as those which re late to biology, and the new future which the treatment of disease by ani, mel extract affords. On a certain 1 evening in May my friend Dr. Everard I and I were seated together in his pri-i vate study. We were engaged in an interesting discussion, and I was tell- t ing him of experiments which I had t been fortunate in completing. "Yes," he said, thoughtfully, "I 1 fully believe that there is a great fu- i ture before this theory of treating dis ease by animal extract, and I shall be E greatly surprised if it does not prove of signal use in the case of the in- E sane. Brain disease is often due, I am sure, to functional disturbance and i consequent malnutrition of certain 3 centers. STANDS BIG STRAIN hiysicat Endurance of Taft Is Extraordinary. 1 DUE TO HIS TEMPERAMENT Seautiful Lawn Party at the White House for International Red Cross Delegatea-Plan of Comptroll or Murray to Check Bank Defalcations. By GEORGE CLINTON. Washington.-President Taft has been through some strenuous cam paigning this year. He has made nit only political addresses, but certainly 50 or more speeches on occasions non political. Mr. Taft is an extraordinar ily big man physically, and yet the strain of hard work does not seem to tell upon him as it does upon other men who carry much less weight. Priends of the president ascribe his continued good condition to his buoy ant disposition. In other words, his temperament stands him a friend dur log his hard work. There have been one or two lawn parties at the White House this year, and before the spring season closes there probably will be on or two more.
