THE FELICIANA SENTINEL. UNEAETHED EVIDENOE On the let of May, 1877, the Packard Government collapsed, and the Nicholls Government was in stituted. In a few days, a great cry was made tsat the books in the Auditor's oile had been lost, sto len or strayed. Geo. B. Johnson, Auditor under Packard, had them carted to the Custom House one night, about a week before the downfall of the Packard govern ment. Two of these books were "Con solidated Bond" books, containing the evidence of genuineness of cer tain State bonds, and, of course, the amount of the State debt. It was thought these books had been burned, and all evidence of the State debt, honest and frandu lent, lost with them.. But they were not. The long looked for books have come to light. A few days ago. the janitor of the Custom House was noseing round, clearing away some rubbish in an unused room, which he intended converting into an office. Books, papers and speeches of statesmen that had been cast aside as waste paper, had bee...

THE IFELICIANA SENTINEL. AINEODOTE OF QUEEN VIOTORIA. uadon Journal: "The queen was not twenty years of age when she assended the throne. Coming into possession of power. with a heart fresh, tender and pure, and with all her instincts inclined to mercy, we may be sure that she found many things that tried her strength of resolution to the u :most. On a bright, beautiful morning, the young queen was waited upon at her palace, at WindEor, by the Dake of Wellington who had brought from London various pa pers requiring her signature to make them operative. One of them was a sentence of the court. martial pronounced against a sol dier of the line-that sentence that he should be shot dead. The queen looked upon the paper, and then looked upon the wondrous beauties that nature had spread to her view 'What has this man done?' she asked. The duke looked at the paper, and replied: 'Ah, my royal mistress, that man, I fear is iucor rigible. He has deserted three times.' 'And can you not say any...

TilE FELICAAlA 8ENTllNEL. XEEP DWE.LLINGS DI3Y. Says the Artisan: "A warm and dry atmosphere is not unwhole some, but when cloudy or rainy weather brings a sultry air which dampens everything around us, the atmosphere may be loaded with the gorms of disease, and fi, e is needed to destroy them The walls, the ceiling and the floors of aparements ,.hould never be allowed to become damp. Sometimes, when the warmth of the air is oppressive, file is more necessary to preserve health titan it is at another season to protect as from the cold of win ter; and the rooms of a dwelling should never be left without the means .of warming and drying. Investigations have shown that many of the most fatal diseases are caused by the germs of vegetable and animal life, and that a humid atmosphere is most favorable for their propagation.
