Randall in 1883 operated a machine having a reel, platform, divider, cutting apparatus and all essential parts. Hussey built and patented the same year a machine. Its principles have never been departed from it is still used in Europe as he built it. He later applied Ogle'B reel. With but three years to run, his open guard patent sold for $300,000. MeCormick claims to have experiment­ ed in 1S31 pa tented a push machine in 1834, strapping the pnsh tongue to the horses* backs: experimented again in 18o0 sold a machine iu 1841 licensed under Hussey's patent at the end of a law suit. WESTERN MINING NOTES. —The Casper Range Mitiiug company has sent to Dead wood a largo quantity of copper ore from its mines at Casper, W.vo., which was 13 per cent, copper, $2.25 gold and soiue silver, —A cleau-up made a few days since on forty tons of ore from the golden Slip­ per mine, near Hill City, S. 1),. gave 1 (XX). besides a ton of. concentrates, which sampled $11 (X), the awrage yield bring a little over $50 to the ton. —A letter from Elizabcthtown. X. M., brings tidings of a great ore strike in one of the mines uear there. The letter states that in the Black Copper mine a pocket of ore was reached that assayed $100,000 to the ton. The fetter adds that the ore looks almost like pure gold. —A rich strike of copper and silver has been made in the Receiver mine at the head of Horse canyon, Mont.
