In 1601 several cows were landed and again in 16U about one hundred head more were brought to the plantation. This, there fore, was the genesis of the cattle busi ness in America. In order to encour age the industry to the fullest possible extent an order was passed forbidding the slaughter of any animal of the bo vine kind nnder penalty of death. "Where there's will there's a ay," has been change ! to "Where there's an office there arc ten Democrats." The Democratic idea seems to de velop along the line that the tree trade platform was to get in on, not to stand on. In the war of appointment to good fat offices, both Xatioual and State, Southeast Missouri will ask for a big slice, and if that bis slice is not dUhcd out satisfactorily there will be a strike raised in the Democratic camp. Congressman Breckinridge says the pensions now received by ex aoldlers 'ought to be reduced." We respectfully submit the proposition to ex-soldiers who voted the Demo cratic ticket this year, for their con- bidera'ion.
