AGKHTl.Tl'KE Am siuM ( i KHiMH brum Aid or CDOOMi-Jt ii dow about twenty-two yean since I moved to my preaent liume, and about twenty years line my currant bushes began to bear. About the second or third year of their bear ing the common green currant-worm made its appearance and threatened to destroy the crop. I put one or two bens with broods of chickens among the bushes; the worms disappeared very suddenly, but the fruit remained and gave a nice return. Since that 1 have kept poultry constantly among the cur rants. As to cultivation : each spring the bur lies are carefully trimmeJ, leaving a few of the thrifty ones to grow, and cutting back some of the old stems, and after they have borne heavily for two or three, years, cut them out entirely and let the younger ones take their places. The ground should be well mai.ured and worked over with a spade or fork. We have to dig very shallow to keep from Injuring the roots. Sometimes I use coarse manure, ami put it dure around the bushe...

If this cannot be furnlnhed there should be a large trough from which thfc animal can drink ut any time. Several large, spreading trees, a thicket of bushes will afford an excellent retreat from the rays of the sun. It is cruelty to put hogs in a pas ture in which there Is no natural or urlitlcial shade. If tnere are no trees, rud theda should be erected and covered with poles and straw.
