In the Leavenworth district, the regular pro-slavery ticket received from 369 to 416 votes, and the independent ticket from 64 to 84 Votes, making 460 votes, the...

IX ABYAXCE. Tk Topeka Constltaiioa. It becomes a matter of grave consider ation with, the Free State settlers of Kan sas, to know how to dispose of the Topeka Constitution. It was adopted by the res ident roters of Kansas near two years ago, as we stated last week, as a sort of necessity, conceiving that Congress wonld cheerfully sanction it, and admit us into the Union under it as a sovereign State, as the easiest way of avoiding the usurpa tion of the Missouri invaders. There was not a prominent actor in the getting up of that Constitution, who did not consider it, to some extent, informal. True,we quoted the precedent of California; but the Cal ifornia movement differed from ours, in this: that the Governor of that Territory issued his proclamation convening the Constitutional Convention; 'whi...

A Democratic Stat. - A gentleman write ns from Boston, and says: "You wanl a Free State, and a free Democratic State." If the author is a reader of the Herald of Freedom, he has not read us underetandingly to draw such an inference. Time and time again we hare shown our bearings, and that to be with the Republican party, as organi zed at Philadelphia under the platform of last summer. There is not a plank in that platform" from which we differ, and every action and vote of ours from the time we first commenced our political life has been in furtherance of that platform. The senior, editor was a free soiler in 1&48, and voted for the Buffalo platform of that year. Iu 1852 he endorsed the Pittsburgh platform, and voted for Jobs P. Hale. In 1856 his sympathies were with the Republicans, but being in Kansas was not permitted to vote. Since coming to Kansas he has seen nothing to make him l...

In a leading editorial in the Herald of freedom, of June Oth, 1855, ire find the following; Writers who have had occasion to speak of Kansas, her fertile toil, her genial cli mate, and beautifully diversified scenery, for want of other comparisons hare been compelled to designate it as the "Garden of the World; while others have spoken of it as an Earthly Paradise, and only . wanting the artificial improvement to make it such; and others, with their minds set on the early history of the hu man family, speak of it as a veritable Edejt.
