At the meeting of the city council Satur day evening, the much discussed env pounding ordinance went to its second reading and was finally passed, as amend ed. It Is No. 8, new series. The electric light ordinance, No. 9, was also passed. As stated In these columns last week, by its provisions the city pays the Sumpter Light and Power company 911.25 each per month for ten arc lights of 2000 candle power, the contract running two years. Rates for private parties are not fixed, it having been decided that this will be equitably adjusted by the compe tition of other kinds of lights. Another week was given the committee on tire and water, in which to report the ordinance fixing water rates.
