A short aud curt reply was received and published, where upon wo ventured the opinion that it was Jor interest money on British gold and for aggrandizement. One sign- ing himself "Carabineer," deploring our ignorance, essayed our enlighten ment. The fact that two or three cor respondents then camo to the rescue of the editor's intelligence did not en tirely relieve us of conscious ignor ance and its depressing cflects.
