The statement copied from tbc SanJuLj Re gister showed only a small surplus of receipts over the exixoditures known and estimated. The actual surplus when tho Fair matters are fully closed up will beroucn larger, for to the re ceipts the Tiiue of the luuilx-r used in erecting the builJings, fce., on the grounds, say 82,XW, i to be added. Tu'.s surplus would have been still greater, but for the fact that the Board adJeJ premiums to the amouut of 3,000 to the lists heretofore given, making a total of 3.000 of premiums, instead of the usual amouut of Sj.OOO. Of these (1,500 were paid in cash. Slavrry has become so unproSuble io a con siderable portion of Maryland that a correspond ent of the Baltimore American takes strong gruniidsin favor of abolishing it. He regards the institution as in evil, and alo a great draw back to the growth and prosperity nf the ancient commonwealth. There are in the State only some Urn or twelve thousand persons who are owners of slave property, and this is only about one twenty fifth of the white papulation.
