L. Hinde's clerk and Mr Renniek, his auditor, left the fficc a few moments before the alarm was given, and the lamp was left burning, A lad looking through the window saw it flaring, and ran to tell Dr Hill. Meanwhile Sergeant Stokes noticed two or three men atEindc's door, which opened off. the little side lane. (by telegraph ) Coolgardie, October 11. t The Mayor of Coolgardie has received the following telegram from the Pie mier, Sir John .Forrest: — 'I .have learnt with much regret of the disas trous fire of last night, and assure you all of my groat sympathy with you in the misfortune that lias so suddenly come upon you. — Signed, John For kest, Premier.' The Mayor of Coolgardie replied thanking the Premier, and asking whether the proviso suggested by bins prohibiting the use of inflammable material in new buildings had l-cen em braced in the new Dill amending the Tlealth Act.

Mr East, 'the well-known director of the South Australian School of Mines, Adelaide, has arrived in Kulgoorlie to take charge of Hannan's Uentrai mine. He has severed his. connection with the School of Mines, and intends to devote himself exclusively to mining, of which he id very fond. He has secured a very promising property for bis first trial on the field.
