An import ant feature of the production here is the lecture, delivered by Mr. M. J. Bloomfield, who, i« the simplest language, tells the pathetic story, of Rufus Dawes. Mr. Bloomfield ...

The Non-Advertiser. [Newspaper Article] — The Independent — 11 August 1914

The Nun-Advertiser. Breathes there a Man with soul so dead Who never to himself hath said: "My trade of late is getting bad, I'll try another two-inch ad." If such there be, go mark him well, For him no bank account shall swell, No angel watch the golden stair To welcome him a millionaire; The man who never asks for trade, By local lines or ad. displayed, Cares more for rest than worldly gain And patronage must give him pain. Tread lightly, riends let no rude sound Disturb his solitude profound. Here let him live in calm repose, Unsought by men except he owes, And when hedies, go plant him deep, That naughtmay break his dreamless sleep, Where no rude clamor may diBpel The quiet that he loved so well, And that the world may know its loss, Place on his grave a wreath of moss; And on a stone above, "Here lies A chump who wouldn't advertise."

German Indecision. Belgian Heroism. [Newspaper Article] — The Independent — 11 August 1914

German Indecision. ! O — Belgian Heroism. During the terrible battle that left so many thousands of Germans in the trenches around Liege, the i marked indecision of the German artillerymen befoie taking up posi tion was noted by the defenders. Whenever a projectile burst amongst them those who could fled precipitately. The heroism of the Belgians was on the other hand remarkable. Although almost overpowered by force of numbers they Btuck to their deadly work without rest. Many Belgian reservists worked without ceasing for days, and then collapsed from sheer exhaus tion. Belgian soldiers state that some of the trenches at Liege were piled four and five feet high with German . The Liege Fort, however, is being stoutly held by the Belgians. The German fire about there is intermittent, as the gunners are running short of shells. General Leiman, the Belgian Commander at Liege, has decided to abandon Liege.
