Published Weekly.     BENALLA, FRIDAY, NOV. 12, 1869. We learn on good authority that almost im- mediately after the prorogation of Parliament it is the intention of the Minister of Railways, accompanied by Mr. Hanna and the district members, to make a tour of inspetion along the proposed North-Eastern line of railway, with the view of finally deciding upon whether the track as last marked off by the severnal survey parties shall be adopted. If approved, tenders will no doubt be called for at once, as the plans and specifications are all ready, we believe, and only wait to be signed.   c: Tucsday being tie annivornary bf tholPrioo 'of Wanles e. birJidny, tliohe publlo offcs :hro ;worn olosed;loxcopt;tho Post-ofbicefir 'a short period, and the police coirt business wos post poned till ?net d'ay The stores and shops also closed'at-mnidday, when fishing and other out-door-sports--wene indulged in. :The widather ws bhoisfdiouii. WOOL WASHING AT TATONG. [Newspaper Article] — The Benalla Ensign and Farmer's and Squatter's Journal — 19 November 1869

WOOL WASHING AT TATONG. A very important question is that of pro- perly cleansing wool for the home market, and when the difference realised by well washed wool and that sent home is the grease is taken late account, there is no wonder that wool growers bestow considerable thought upon this part of their business, and avail themselves of every opportunity in acquiring information relative to a subjeot of such vital importance to them as pro- ducers. One gentleman we know, since adopting the "spout" system, has added to his yearly receipts as much as 3 1/2 d for every pound of wool he produces. But say that a squatter has 20,000 sheep, which will yield an average of 9 1/2 Ilbs of wool each, or 50,000 lbs., an increasei of even 3 1/2 d per lb. will add to his revenue the handsome sum of £625. Against this may be put the cost of machinery, which is of course, expensive, and the annual expenditure of about £50 in labour, to work it; and the public will see   at a glance the...
