PROPOSED BRIDGE AT GOOLAGONG. [Newspaper Article] — The Canowindra Star — 22 June 1900

PROPOSED BRIDGE AT GOOLAGONG. I We are very pleased to note the efforts being made by the Progress Association of Goolagong to obtain a special grant from Government for the construction of a bridge across the Lachlan River: In our opinion it is not only the citizens of Goolagong who should take the matter in hand, but tho settlers of the whole district, as it would be of considerable benefit to everyone. Goolagong, like many other inland towns, is quietly but firmlv g-oimr ahead, and the snlendtd !? Q t # 1 ? * country surrounding it for many milos | justifies the Government in granting | the money required towards the erection of a bridge. When the Laclhan River is in flood the crossing is impassable, and anyone travelling With conveyances and horses is compelled to leave their vehicle and animals at the mercy of the vandal, should any be about, and cross in a boat. We contend that tho residents have a' perfect right to dematid this concession, as it would prove itself an invaluab...

Many bags have been promised, but we would ask those farmers who are willing to respond to this appeal to send in their donatious at the earliest possible opportunity, thereby insuring a quick despatch* It is a terrible thing to know that over 100 unfortunato human beings are dying daily in India through starvation, plague, small-pox and cholera. It is our devine duty, as sons and daughters of the Motherland to render India all assistance available in her hour of need. Only the other day word was received from the Governor- General of India stating that this was one of the worst famines ever known in that part of the world, where famine is so oft repeated, and in asking our fellow men to respond to this call we feel it will not be in vain.
