The Warragul Guardian. THURSDAY, MARCH 11, 1880. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 11 March 1880

Tiw letter of " ('. S." whlich ppears ii aothelor colutini, although indicted in aworthy spirit, in pupport of the Liberal cause, seems to us to be rather late-in fact something like an effort to) " sut the stable door when the horse is stolen." OQf course this re mark does not apply to the electorate of South Gippsland, the majority of the electors of wvhich. proved, on the 2Sth. ult.,.tho.corrcctness of our opi nions concornlig th!om, ncamely, that they espoused the Liberal cause. But the league which itis proposed to form Cwould, wo'presunic, hale for its object a wider influence than, would be con fined to this electorate. It is no doubt contemplated to work in .unison with kinidred leagues throughout the colony. But wlhat object, wed would like to ask, is to boegained by banding together just now ? We, as Liberals, although returning' our membr: for South Gippsland, lost the day, as a body, on the 28th of February. Why not ac ko.iicledge tlis, and accept our defeat like men ? T...

ROAD FROM MORWELL TO MIRBOO. TO THE EDITOR OF THE GUARDIAN. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 18 March 1880

ROAD FROM MOIRWELL TO MlitBOO. TO THE EDITOR OF THE GUARDIAN. Sis,--ILviug: occasion to. take', a friend fromn Morwell to Mirboo. had n :moppor tunity of seeing the road between these two townships, and must certainly express my conviction. that the importance of the MIirboo district demands that something should be immediately done to improve the means of commlunication thither. Leaving ŽIorwell at, about 10 a.m., I made as much speedd hs the nature of the road would permit, but it was 4 pin. when I reached Baird's, a dishtnce of 17 Iuiles. I remained there for the night,m'nad obtainld csigreat deal of inforiimation about tlihe district froim Messrs. Baird. Smith and Lowden. Next morning proceeded to Messrs. Searlett iant Breunau's at-Miirboo. -During the day was shown by Mr. Searlett a crop of potatoes, the like of which I never'sasi before.: The land in the 'neighborhood is first-chtss,;and as'I said before such an important' agriFiCi tural district ought not to be retarded for w...

Large imlubbrs : of 'visitors froi all parts of the district, Rose dale and Sale,: wero present,' and generally expressed their aplproval of the programmie. TRARALGON. Wednesday. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 18 March 1880

TRARAALGO. (FROM OUR OWN CORES.PONDENT.) :Wednesday. Very few trucks of cnttle left Traralgon yesterday,; owing to the want of trucks. The sooner this matter is remedied the better for graziers and the revenue of the Depart- mont. An unfortunate little girl, 5 years of age, Johanna Walsh by name, living at the Four mile Creek, Traralgon, ais burnt very se verely last night, and death put an end to her sufferings early this morning. It is pro bable that a magisterial enquiry will be held, no doctor having bean in atteoudance. The residents of Maryvale are memorial ising the Hon. the Postmaster-General for a post office in their district, which, if ob tained, will prove of great benefit o o the residents of that parish. considerably curtailed, owing to late arrival of lengthy telegraphic report of Traralgon Races.

CORIES PONDE CE. TIlE ]3ULNlBULN3 ,SITIRE ADVYERTISING. TO THE EDITOR OF THE GUARDIAN. SmR,-I wish to call the attention of my fellow-.rtepayers to tlhe' nbusiness-like course pursued,by our Shire Council in their advertising arrangements. The two papers which are least read in this district are se lected as the advertising ihediums for the shire. About one of these I shall not say anything, 'as it is a matter in which you are personally interested, and Iconsideryou are better able to write in support of your own cause than I am. But aibout the other, the Sale paper patronised by the Council, I feel bound to offer a few remarks. As I saidl before, I complain of the unbusiness-like conduct of the Council in not sending their shire announcements to the paper with the best circulation. My opinion is that the advertisements relating to, contracts, &c., instead of being insierted in the " Gippsland Times" two, three, or four tiics, asthe clse may be, should be sent to the " Gipps...
