Barnes, deceased.     Richard Morgan, Constable of the District of Kangaroo Point, is dismissed from that Office.       John Paterson is appointed a Constable of Hobart Town, in the Room of James Mackneal, resigned. By Command his Honor the Lieutenant Governor, W. A. Ross, Secretary.

GOVERNMENT PUBLIC NOTICE.   NAVAL OFFICE, HOBART TOWN, 25th July, 1817. THE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR directs that all persons in this settlement possessing BOATS NOT LICENCED, shall on or before Monday the 4th August, give in their names at the Secretary's Office, with a correct description of their boats, Names and Dimensions, in order that they may be registered and Numbered, and to enable the Naval Officer to grant Licences to such as His Honor may be pleased to sanction. " James states, that he was in the boat's crew hut at George- town, on Thursday the 3d inst. : just at dusk he saw John Randall   enter the boat's crew hut, and saw either Samuel Smith or Thomas Smith strike him with their fists; that they knocked him down in the house, and Samuel Smith called to him (James) to assist in drag-     ging out Randall ; that he did so, and Samuel and himself dragged Randall cut of the house into the brush in front of it ; that during this time Thomas Smith was inside the hut, to which Samuel Smith and himself returned, leaving Randall in the brush ; that Samuel Smith then askedfor an axe, which he (James) gave to him, and   Samuel Smith then went out ; that he heard a blow, and shortly after Samuel Smith returned,saying" he had finished him ;" and that     Thomas Smith was not out of the house at this time.       HOBART TOWN SATURDAY, JULY 26,1817 SITTING MAGISTRATE -A. F. KEMP, ESQ. HORRID MURDER AT GEORGE TOWN -On Friday the 4 th inft. The body of John Rarndall, acting as chief constable at George-town, Port Dalrymple, was found by Corporal Mitchell and Come privates of the 46th regt, who were out in a boat fishing, lying on the rocks at Point Macquarie, with the head nearly severed from the body. Information was immediately given to Mr, LEITH, in spector of public works, who with some others proceeded to View the body ¿:'¿nd'an ínqueít being held-thereon $ before Mr. T. Government & General Orders.—GOVERNMENT HOUSE, HOBART TOWN, Saturday, 25th July, 1817.—CIVIL DEPARTMENT.   IT appearing that Robert Taylor (commonly called Parson Taylor), who is Advertised as having absented himself from Government Employment without leave, was allowed to pass the River and through the Country without any pass, merely showing an Old Letter, which he called a Dispatch for Port Dalrymple; It is hereby, ordered that no Letters, Proclamations, or Dispatches, even though marked outside with the LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR's NAME, be ad- mitted as a Pass, but that in all Cases a Regular Pass signed by the Lieutenant Governor be required. And all Ferrymen and others are warned, that they will be called to severe account for neglect- ing and disobeying this Order.           By Command of His Honor the Lieutenant Governor, W. A. Houfehold, 7d.     SHIP NEWS.--Arrived on the 2oth ult. at Launcefton, the chooner Henrietta Packet, from Port Jackfon.--Paffengers, Mr. M'CARTY, owner, and Capt. A. BARCLAY. By the above arrival we are credibly informed, that the brig Go- vernor Macquarie would fail from Sydney in or about three weeks from the 28th of June, for Port Dalrymple and this Port. Michael Howe abfented himfelf from gaol on Monday laft.
