Heads of the latest European Intelligence. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette and Van Diemen’s Land Advertiser — 20 July 1822

Heads of the latest European Intelligence. dei     The presence of His Majesty at Brighton will now make that beautiful sea-port town the gayest and most fashionable place in the Kingdom. The tone of animation which has been imparted to the town can be scarcely conceived. Many places being illuminated in the evening;- large assem- blages of people waiting to welcome our Sove-   reign, with loud huzzas ;- the bands under arms playing ' God Save the King; -the bells ringing a merry peal ; the Steyne and Marine Parade pro- menades literally crowded, indeed, remind us of the gayest scenes in Hyde Park, with the addi- tional advantage of the sea view and air. A chain Pier was about to be constructed at Brighton, to run out 1000 feet, which would af- ford depth of water at the lowed tides for a steam vessel to come alongside, and at an hour's flood a large frigate may run close. The pier is to have four arches or spars 230 feet each ; breadth 12 feet...
