LATEST FROM SYDNEY. Public meetings have been held in Sydney, 'forthepurpdsB of taking stops to present Mr. Vial with a testimonial for his prompt seizure of O'Farrell at Clontarf. There were heavy rains in Melbourne on Saturday night, and a man was drowned in Elizabeth-street, the water carrying him under a foot-bridge. The address of condolence to the Queen from Adelaide was signed by 61,722 persons. The Acting Governor has promised so to for ward it that it should come under the personal observation of Her Majesty. ? A Scotch Fenian has been committed to Launceston gaol in Tasmania, and one Patrick Burns, has been committed under tho Treason Felony Act at Armidale. Prince Alfred has quite recovered. He has several times appeared in public, and on Tuesday spent some time aboard the Galatea. The intelligence is not important. Parliament re-assembled on the 13th of February, and leave was granted to suspend the Habeas Corpus Act in Ireland again. There have been more Fenian riots at Cork and Warwick. The leader of the Clerkenwell outrage has been taken, and Captain M'Eay has been also captured. His friends in Cork attempted a rescue, but were unsuccessful. A man has bevn shot in London. The Catholic' clergy of Kilfarney hiCye refused to say masses for- the? repose of ^the Manchester murderers. ? ; : -- France proposes to i'oiso. 17,600,000 francs for military purposes. **? ??; A coolness has sprung up between Napoleon and the Pope. TRIAL OF H. J. OFARRELL. (Before his Honor Mr. Justice Chceke) On Monday Henry James O'Farrell, who was arraigned on the preceding Thursday on an indictment which charged him with having on the 12th of March, .1868, at Middle Harbour, in this colony, wounded, with intent to murder, Alfred Ernest Albert, Duke of Edinburgh, and to which indictment he pleaded not guilty, was brought up for trial. The court was crowded, and large numbers could not gain admission. ' Mr. Attorney General Martin and Mr. Solicitor-General Isaac appeared for the '. Crown ; prisoner was defended by Mr. Aspinall (of Melbourne), and Mr, Dalley, instructed by Mr. Pavey (of Melbourne).
