TalKs on Everyday Topics . [Newspaper Article] — Farmer's Wife — 1 April 1906
TalKs on Everyday Topics . By SAVIE E . HOFFMAM . Business Method in Agriculture No , 2 , Agriculture , or farming , is the business of raising products from the land , and also comprises to a great extent , the marketing or selling of these products . One who has had an opportunity to study conditions as they exist on the average farm cannot be otherwise than surprised that there are not more failures on the part of those who engage in agricultural pursuits than the records show . The large stores and manufacturing plants of our cities have many methods of keeping strict and accurate accounts of all the details of their business . While the farmer cannot use the same business methods and systems on his farm as the city manufacturer on account of having to deal with climatic conditions , etc ., yet it is just as necessary for him to keep an accurate and systematic record of all his business transactions as it is for the business man in town . To do this will require some bookkeeping...

tfealkftMes *• -By Z # W Suggestions . The face sympathises with the thought . The mind has power to keep the body strong 1 and healthy , and to preserve life . Success is a health tonic , while failure usually depresses the system . I In these days when physical culture , icceives so much attention , and muscular exercise in the place of medicine i is depended on to gain health and , strength , the influence of the mind ] upon the body should not be forgotten , and a cheerful , vigorous , mental attitude should be cultivated . I j I Going to bed at night with the face grimy with the soil that naturally accumulates through the day , induces a muddy complexion and the formation of comedones or blackheads . The skin gives off a large amount of moisture , filled with the waste materials of the body , every twenty-four hours . This is largely absorbed by the clothing . Tlic art of making glass is almost as ancient as the record of mans first development , as the collections in the different museums from the Egyptian , Assyrian and Phoenician go to show , and wonderful as it may seem in this age of improvement it is made essentially as it was thousands of years ago . The Venetians were great glass workers . The Romans engraved their glass as they engraved gems , but of glass cutting as we know it there was little or none until about two hundred years Process of Cutting Glass . ago . And the deep cutting of glass began in the early part of the nineteenth century . Glass to the untutored mind is simply a transparent , hard , colorless , brittle substance capable of different shaping when in a molten state . The bases of glass are mostly lime , alumina , potash , soda and oxide of lead . These materials are added to sand which is thrown into the melting pot and subjected to an intense heat...
