TUTT 1 A VHPT TTTTT ATR VOL. 2. HAYTI, MISSOURI, THURSDAY, JULY 7, 1910. NO. 36. t j I NOTICE OF A Long List of Pemiscot County Citizens Used, and Heavy Damage Suits May Follow. The notice to contest tlio local option election of June 14, 1910, lias been filed, and from what weeau learn, a whole lot of allegations havo been made, which if not proven, are going to result in some heavy damage suits, and many long years of wrangling in oourt. The people of Hayti arc a unit, the local option vote of 23 to 793 going to prove this, and since the election some of the little bunch of 23 drys are joining the 795 who are bat tling for their rights and are deter mined to battle for them to the bitter end. Of course the people of Hayti feel absolutely safe. The only regrets they have is that the little bunch at Caruthersville, for political reasons, can inveigle some of the people of Pemiscot county into a hopeless wrangle and an endless array of damage suits. The notice of contest as filed by ...

Saloon License Granted. The little bunch who arc trying to fight Haytl have met with another de feat. So far they have been defeated in every move they have made. They were defeated whun they sought to pi-event the county court from or dering the election. They were defeated when they sought to enjoin the election. They were defeated in their attempt to put Caruthursville speakers in Hay tl. They were defeated in the election. They were defeated in their attempt to use Caruthersville citizens as par ties to the contest, for the reason that the election concerns Pemiscot county only, outside of Caruthersville, and the citizens of Caruthersville- have no standing in court. And now, after all this long series of defeats Ilayti proving an easy and triumphant victor at every instance, the same little hunch poke their heads up again, for another smite, on July fth, when Kred Morgan of Ilayti ap 7lied for saloon license. The little bunch of Caruthersville wero there to object, but the stur...

"If that wouldn't jar your Grand Ma's pcrturnip greens," coming from such a tomcat bluffer as tho Argus, wo don't know what would. Let's see, on tho one subject of local option election, a few of tho many bluff's the Argus and its bunch havo already put up. In its Issue May 5, tho Argus said if the county court held it legal and ordered an election in the county, tho pooplo of Caruthors villo already had a petition and would hold an election in that town, too. Tho election was duly ordered and held in tho county, just as wo said it would bo. But, tho Caruthorsvilie petition and election, what became of them.? Neither was over heard of again. Talk about bluff! Instead of holding their election as they said they would, tho Argus and its bunch went before tho county court and tried to bluff that august body out o...

THE HAYTI HERALD. VOL. 2. HAYTI, MISSOURI, THURSDAY, JULY 21, 1910. NO. 38. A NIGHT MARSHAL. There has novcr been a time, in many years, when Haytl did not need a night marshal, but for tlio past four years, being deprived of tho saloon license, the city did not feel able to pay a night man. With tho return of tho saldons, however, new exigencies arise, and with the increased amount of revenue paid into the city treasury, there will .be ample funds to pay tho night man. Tho night man should bo on duty all night. This is made necessary by reason of tho fact that there is a largo dry territory around us, and our ex cellent train service and many night trains will make the saloon business practically an all-night affair, and pcoplo from every part of tho country south to Blythevillo, north and west through Dunklin county and towards Portageville, and, in fact, from all parts of the country como on these night trains and return on them, which in some instances is as lato as 4:20.
