The passage of the joint resolution, authorizing the creation of the office of Lieutenant-Gen- eral, as a special hefnor to Maior-Genera Scott, has been the cause of great rejoic ing. Lolonel lJreston s house is crowded to-night by the friends of the Command -cr-in-Chicf. General Shields and Judge Douglas both electioneered in the Ilouse in favor of conferring the title. Upon ascertaining the vote, Col. Preston drove to the War Department, and anuounceu the intelligence to Scott. The affair happened at the public house of A. & S. Barry. Redman, tie offender was arrested, had u hearing before Esquire Burnett, and was commit ted to jail. Borough and Township Officers. The election, for Borough and town ship Officers, in this County, on Friday last, passed off very quietly. In several of the townships "Sam" was about.
