P Steele Buys the Manteo The steamer Manteo formerly operated by the Mobile Gulf Steam ship Co in the local freight trade and which was withdrawn from the trade because of lack of business last week has been sold by H B Slaugh ter and other owners to the Atlanta St Andrews Bay Railroad and i to be operated by this company in connection with their road and the Mailory steamship line thus givinj the railroad a connecting link between New York New Orleans Mobile Pen sacola and St Andrews Tne deal was closed in Mobile last night the price being between 840000 and 850 000 and the steamer is to resume service at once It was known in Pensacola for a week or more that A B Steele presi dent of the rairoad was negotiating for the purchase of the steamer and recently he went to Mobile to confer with the owners who had been com pelled to withdraw the vessel from the local trade on account of lack of patronage Mr Steeles offer it is un derstood was 840000 but the owners I wanted 850000 What the ...
