Water Mioktixg Satihdav Niout. —On Sutiinlay night, the citizens meet ing called to discus* the Water question, waa held at the Court house. It being an adjourned meeting, tho old officers W. T. Harrison, President, and W. B. Forrest, Secretary, held over. The meeting being organised and ready for discussion. Mr. Lock-art ftp*- anil challenged the opponents of water to come forward in a spirit of nmnllncrs and set forth their objections, or forever after hold their peace. Jas. L. lielote, ('ity Collector, fearing an increase of business in that office, when the water rates increased the city's Revenue, having been understood to oppose the water question, was called for. He arose ami saitl he was always open to convic tion, but being naturally an enquiring disposition, he desired to hear the affir mative side. W. H. ('. WEDNESDAY, (It'TOI.KK 11, 1-Sfi... LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. Suicide and Attempted Murder. The following are, in brief, particularn of a suicide and attempted murder in this city on Monday night : A drunken" man, named John Thompson, got into a difficulty, while playing cards on .Sun day last in the restaurant of Alfred Mar vel, on the corner of Wide-Water and Nebraska str.ets, with a couple of sol diers, and was roughly handled, and Anally arrested. He slept in the watch house over night, and WH released th** following morning. He returned to the house of Mr. Marvel and declared that he had been robbed by the soldiers, at the same time asking'tlie barkeeper if he knew their names. He did not ob tain the required information, and, after taking a drink or two, drew a pis tol and discharged one barrel at the bar keeper who dodged behind the counter, and went out to wake May, the partner of Mr. Marvel, who was asleep on a so fa in the bar-room.
